Business History

My working life began as a contracting electrician. The award-winning business I started in 1972 grew steadily until it was sold in 2001. An interesting spin-off from the core business was a successful training company - and a passion for decent vocational training and apprenticeships remains with me to this day.

Having responsibility for staff and young trainees made me realize the importance of a robust business and civic framework - the two worlds are inter-linked. I've always had vision and strong opinions and, quite honestly, fed-up with shouting from the touch-line, I decided to join in wholeheartedly. Over the years I've contributed with energy and ideas to the North East Chamber of Commerce, Round Table, Rotary, Learning and Skills Council, Community Partnerships, School Governorships and the Police Authority etc.

I have a reputation for hard work, straight-talking and persistence and my input and challenges are at every level. I welcome contact with all my constituents.
